Dental Implant Treatment: How is it Done? What are the Types?

Dental implant procedures are usually performed under local anesthesia. If the anesthesia is applied correctly, there should be no pain during the procedure.

If you feel any pain during the implant application, it may be due to two reasons: the implant may be putting pressure on a nerve or the local anesthesia procedure may have failed.

If there are no errors regarding these problems, there should be no pain. This procedure is completely painless.

What is the Dental Implantation Process?

Dental implantation begins by creating a simple socket in the jawbone in the desired area for the tooth. There is no pain during the procedure. The selected implant material, called the implant, is placed in the socket according to its diameter and length. Opening the socket and placing the screw takes about 8-10 minutes. This is a standard implant application.

Sometimes there may not be enough bone in the area where the implant will be placed. In such cases, it is necessary to first create bone. The bone is sometimes created by applying implant and bone powder, and sometimes by placing bone taken from another part of the patient in the area in question two months before the implant application. Thus, the implant application can be made on the created bone tissue two months later. After the procedure, the implant remains inside the jawbone and below the gum. It is not visible from the outside because it is below the gum.

There may be slight swelling after the procedure. As with all materials placed in the body, the use of antibiotics is necessary after the implantation.

Is Dental Implantation Performed During Tooth Extraction?

If the jawbone is not seriously damaged after tooth extraction, implantation can be performed immediately. Therefore, great care must be taken not to damage the bone during extraction. When the tooth is extracted, a cylindrical cavity is formed where the root of the tooth is taken. This cavity can be corrected with a special tool and a suitable implant can be placed in this cavity. Sometimes the edges of this cavity can be very wide. These areas can be filled with bone powder. Especially in the anterior region where the smile line is, a temporary tooth is placed immediately after the tooth is extracted and an implant is placed. Thus, the procedure is completed without any visual or functional loss.

How is Porcelain Coating Done After Dental Implant Treatment?

About six weeks after the dental implant procedure, porcelain coating is applied. If this process is done with digital technology, it takes about 1 hour. If it is done by taking measurements, it takes 5 days. During this process, an intermediate part called an abutment is attached to the implant. Normally, this intermediate part is a titanium-based metal part. In recent years, zirconium abutments have been produced and are preferred for aesthetic reasons. Zirconium materials are more tissue-friendly. Their long-term results are better.

For porcelain coating to be applied on zirconium or titanium abutment, zirconium or titanium can be used. The use of zirconium is preferred to increase the success rate.
